G7 has a better sensor and probably a better lense, but it does not have the zoom range you want. I would think that there is no noticeable difference if you print your picture within 7" or view it in a computer moniter between 6M pixels and 10M pixels. The pictures may show differences if you make large prints, but then lens quality may play an importent role in it. Therefore, I would think PowerShot S3 IS probably is a good bet.
