my suspicion on the root cause of all these deplorable symptoms is
that we, as Chinese, have no sense of belonging, thus no stake in
being considerate or preserving the present for the future. each is
for him/her-self only.
analogies in the insect world: other people may behave like bees,
which have a queen to protect, to look up to. for them, the queen may
be national image, community, self respect, ... for us, the multitude
of queens we had had been destroyed. we are either adopted by other
bee hives or we are loner flies.
we can search for a queen to gather us around. but it may take time or
downright infeasible because whatever hive we would have would be at
that onslaught of those loner flies from the start.
