If it is Sony's VAIO laptop, it may be a driver damage issue otherwise you should be able to get it cancelled after referring user's manual (google it if you don't have a copy at hand).
If you would like to try installing drivers again, you may find copies of various drivers at:
ftp://ftp.vaio-link.com/PUB/OS/XPDOWNGRADE/FZ19/DRIVERS/
If you can't find your model, google it then.
