I believe science will be able to answer many of the questions we pose today and provide much deeper understanding of the working and evolution of the universe. I doubt science will ever be able to answer the questions how the universe is created and for what purpose - for this is not the kind of question that science answers because there is no way we can know for sure that the answer is right or wrong. These questions belongs to philosophy and religion. This is not to say one should not ponder questions like that. Many do and should. Hunman intelligence knows no bound in posing questions and our curious nature will always wonder, to ask why and why not. This is what we do. Our actions most of the time has a purpose, and are based on desires and on achieving a result. It is only natural that we think the universe should do too.
Many physicists talk about the God that brings these wonders in a way almost close to religion. To me this is not necessarily an indication that they believe in an independent being behind, but rather because these are the the language that we used to use to describe these sort of things. Most of the physicists I know subscribe the idea that the ultimate ruler of nature is nature itself - in the same sense Einstein uses the word God. If you believe that the foundmental laws of physics will persist and goven the motion of every particle ( we have no reason to believe othewise), then whether there is a master or not is only important in our mind.
The universe does not need to have a purpose to justify our existence. Human race has achieved knowledge and understanding beyond belief- in such a relatively short period of time. We are the proud child of nature. We have already come to terms with nature in a way - we explore and find and enjoy endless beauty in nature and natural laws; we discover and create new things everyday. To me this is the best way to come to terms with nature - to live and to be part of it.
