You might need to find the CD-ROM driver. If you do not have the driver, try this:
1. Download and make a Win98 boot disk from here:
http://support.micronpc.com/file_lib/boot.html
2. Find oakcdrom.sys on the floppy and copy it to C:\windows
add this line to your c:\config.sys
device=c:\windows\oakcdrom.sys /d:Micron
3. reboot the system
I am not sure if this can fix the problem with your CDROM. But at least you may try it.
