To all JIDA alumni:

Jilin University holds a unique place in the world of research and education. It also holds a unique place in our heart. Over the decades of our involvement, we have seen each other grow as we strive to discover the truth to the world. We are honored to be associated with Jilin University.

Many alumni in the LA-San Diego areas have expressed interests in establishment of the JIDA Alumni Association of Southern California (JAASC). WANG Tieli (Chemistry, 1980; Institute of theoretical Chemistry, 1984) and DU Wu (chemistry, 1990) have volunteered to coordinate the efforts. We are calling for help from computer science alumni to build a web site if possible.

The first step would be to establish a formal communication forum for JIDA alumni in Southern California. A web site at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/jida_southerncalifornia/ has been set up. Herein, we encourage all the people associated with Jilin University to join us at the web site. When you registered, please nickname your self as department and entrance year such as chem82 or physics90.

The next step would be the formation of JIDA Alumni Association of Southern California (JAASC). We are proposing to formally inaugurate our charter in late April or early May this year. Currently, we are looking for volunteers to help on organizational matters. Please contact either WANG Tieli (tilly_suny@yahoo.com, 626-359-1527) or DU Wu (wudu@scripps.edu, 858-784-7530) if you would like to help. The first meeting of the preparation committee will be held in early February.

As one of the branches of JIDA alumni association, JAASC will organize regular and occasional activities among our members, establish formal communication link and co-ordinate contacts with the Alumni Office at Jilin University, and exchange news and programs with other branches in Northern California (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/JidaUS/) and the East Coast (www.juoaa.org) periodically.

The older we grow the more we miss our past. In particular, in this foreign land, we have strong desires to see old friends or even someone from the same origin. JAASC will be good place to commemorate our past and discuss our future. We hope people in our association can forge solid foundation to provide support for each other. The success of our group reflects the abilities and enthusiasm of its entire members. What has made Jilin University great is the people who have created and maintained the environment that has made us all so proud. Let us maintain that college bound.

We wish you all well for the New Year and look forward to seeing you at our association gatherings in the future.
