I know it is a boring topic and I try to make it short.
I did read some books back than. I bought a lot of books too. However, when I left China, all my books are left behind. I left them to a friend and wished he use them well. I stop buy books for a long time: too many relocations. I think I will restart to buy some books after this move.
But, I fully agree with you: the inner ability is much more important than reading books. The ability to find a new way to look at things always amazes me. I admire people doing comedy: they know how to create situations to make people laugh. They observe, think and create.
My son finally get ride of “C”s on his report card this term. He was very happy and I was happy too. I told him that he was not as smart as his elder sister. For her, “A” is a common thing not “B”, or “C”. As a result, he should be working hard than his sister. I told him that in Chinese, we say “笨鸟先飞.” Think a moment, he told me it is wrong: “If a bird is stupid, it cannot fly first, because it does not know the direction due to its stupid-ness. Without knowing where to fly, how can it fly first? If he fly first, he will get lost for sure.”
I was pretty happy: He had a new way to look at this which I never thought before.
