诸位，本人的老板在作一个中国项目。公司给了他一份《指南》，告诉他跟中国人
打交道的基本常识。出於好奇，他把这份文件转给我作评论。

本人觉得这上很多对中国人的观察、理解很可笑，至少是过时了。但，
１。本人已去国多年，现今的国人究竟什么样，不敢妄下结论
２。本人接触的国人，多在城市里、知识界。即使上大学以前接触的，也都是工人
阶级。占中国人口百分之八十的农民、现今大量的民工，还有新生的暴发户、企业
家、外资企业的雇员、等等。本人了解不多。

所以，想在这征询更多的意见。你们觉得这些对中国人的评价准确吗？

• The Chinese know, that they are the custodians of the greatest and most advanced culture on earth. They consider themselves as the “cream” of mankind. To them China is the centre of the civilized world. The Chinese do not identify with any other people on earth.

• All Chinese operate on system of tight insider networks, mercilessly exploiting them and in turn being exploited by them, but relying on them. Not individuals but families were considered as the basic units of society. Intense loyalty to a small group is therefore part of the Chinese character.

• All Chinese are inured to hierarchy, they suppress initiative and rely on direction from above, in turn suppressing independence in those beneath them. There are no eccentrics in China, because there is a strong conformism.

• All Chinese have fatalism heavily built in. Most Chinese will not make any important decisions without first consulting the stars for auspicious day and hour.

• Chinese are very modest. No Chinese will ever confess to doing anything well or to possessing anything valuable. On the other hand, no Chinese will fail to praise the deeds, attributes and possessions of almost everyone else he/ she meets.

• The Chinese are addicted to noise and feel uncomfortable with silence. The Chinese word for “having a good time” is “re-nao”, which means literally “it`s hot and noisy”.

• Be patient. The Chinese are very cautious in business matters, and will expect a strong relationship to be built before they close the deal.

• It is very important to be punctual in China, not only for business meetings, but for social occasions as well. Lateness or cancellation is a serious affront.

• Chinese can have dozens of words with different meanings pronounced exactly the same. Therefore, if possible, bring your own interpreter as well to help you understand nuances in the discussion. Use short, simple sentences, and pause often to make sure that you are understood.
