TRUE - at best imply that they were arrogant, covetous, striving to match or better the ruthlessness of previous white colonizers.
For sure, they were on a wrong path.
FALSE - their enthusiasm incriminates them even more.
Think about the similar enthusiasm of chinese people during the culture revolution or that of the germen in the nazi era. Those things just happened tragically, which go back to your point one.

We were aggressors and committed atrocities as well some times in the history, such as the invasions to Korea and Vetnam. At some point, one just have to forgive.
