The Essay has a lot of interesting points.
I have watched “Hero” in a theater. I agree with many arguments the essay presented from technical point of view.
But, I do not understand: Why it is okay for Taiwanese to watch the film, but it would be horribly wrong if the film’s audience were mainland Chinese?
Is it the same logic of the film which the essay tries to attack?
Is this the essay’s logic:
For Taiwanese, the film would be good, because mainland China would be the chosen one (the film’s Qin), and Taiwan (the film’s Zhao) should give up any resistance?
However, for mainland Chinese, the film would be bad, because, some other stronger country (USA, for example) would be the chosen one (the film’s Qin), and China (would be the film’s Zhao) should give up any resistance.
If it is the logic of the essay, then on what moral base the author could so loudly attack the film’s moral ground?
