I am sorry but I have to say that your view of scientific enterprise and what science is and does is misinformed at best. Unlike religion, science is not arbitrary: the law of motion is universal and can be verified with experiments. Science never claims to describe the reality fully. It is always an ever-closer approximation to the reality - as we know more, our knowledge of the nature improves. This is why science is science - it can be invalidated with experiment and its correctness improves as times go along. Religion, on the other hand, requires absolute acceptance of the dogma at the initiation - it is either true or untrue and it has to be accepted as a faith, rather than verified with experience.

To people who do not understand, science appears abstract. To the practitioners, science reveals infinite mystery and beauty in nature and provides a true road to get closer to God.

Religion is great in providing moral guidance to people. But it can really be reactionary if it becomes a dogma, as what happended during the dark ages. The future for religion is to find a way to coexist with science. Fighting with the pearl of human existence, science and scientific knowledge, is unwise.

I am sorry that I sound argumentive. This is too close to the heart for me to let go - even if we are alumini. I am not against religion - in fact I felt peace when I visited Church. I am just against certain kind of religion - a religion that claims anything that is different from what is described in the bible is wrong, even scientific facts.
